Position Summary

The Analyst, Technology and Venture Development will work closely with members of the Toronto Innovation Acceleration Partners (TIAP) life sciences team, principal investigators and other members of the Toronto research community. The Analyst will work to identify and evaluate new technology opportunities for TIAP’s drug development and venture creation programs, with a focus on therapeutic development based on insights into molecular mechanisms of disease. The position will focus on all aspects of technology evaluation, market research, due diligence, and the development of technology advancement plans to support commercialization.

Position reports to the Director, Technology & Venture Development

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Actively identify high quality commercialization opportunities, focused on therapeutic development, to bring new projects into the TIAP life sciences portfolio
  • Liaise with academic technology transfer offices and scientists to gather appropriate information and communicate progress
  • Conduct systematic reviews of the literature, attend local academic meetings and seminars, and meet with research staff and scientists directly in collaboration with senior members of the TIAP life sciences team
  • Prepare technology assessment reports covering (1) scientific and technical due diligence; (2) intellectual property evaluation; and (3) market and competitive analysis
  • Present and defend technology assessments to senior members of the TIAP life sciences team
  • Assist in developing workplans and budgets in collaboration with TIAP partners and scientists to support advancement of therapeutic development projects
  • Prepare white papers or presentations on emerging therapeutic innovations and trends to the TIAP life sciences team
  • Maintain databases and internal tracking systems to support and enable the life sciences team
  • Represent TIAP at conferences, meetings, seminars and other events
  • Other duties as assigned

Educational/Technical Requirements

  • Post-graduate technical degree in the Life Sciences (PhD preferred)
  • In-depth knowledge of molecular & cell biology, genetics, bioinformatics, pharmacology or other related discipline with knowledge of and experience with bench research
  • Exposure to basic principles and concepts related to drug discovery and development
  • Aptitude for analyzing early-stage life sciences technologies including technical, intellectual property and market due-diligence
  • Strong market research skills
  • Ability to interact with the academic research community and other stakeholders in a diplomatic and professional manner

  • Strong computer, analytical, creative problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Must possess an ability to work effectively both independently and as a part of a team
  • Ability to thrive in a challenging and fluid work environment while being flexible and adaptable is a must
  • Proven ability to deal with confidential material and sensitive issues with diplomacy and discretion
