UTSC Management is a world leader in providing business education that is heavily influenced by experiential learning and internationalization. The goal of UTSC Management is to create opportunities for our students to learn and experience leadership by applying the latest management theory to real-world problems both inside and outside the classroom.
The First Year Learning and Integration Program (FLIP) facilitates integration among domestic and international students through bi-weekly skills building workshops that support key areas of student success. Our goal is to foster intercultural interactions and elevate first year management students experience.
Under the general direction of the Managing Director, Department of Management, and supervision of the Student Success Coordinator, the First Year Experience Coordinator will work closely with the First Year Learning and Integration Program (FLIP) committee to organize activities and events for approximately one hundred first year management students. To meet the experiential needs of the department’s multicultural student population, the First Year Experience Coordinator will liaise with internal and external collaborators to organize activities and events that will provide opportunities for first year students to study, work and socialize together. The FLIP programming is offered in hybrid, virtual and in person settings.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating the schedule for program and event calendars
- Determining logistical details and activities for events and/or programming
- Liaising with internal and external contacts to coordinate execution of seminars and workshops
- Arranging catering
- Coordinating scheduled activities for functions
- Generating reports
- Fostering cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts
- Coordinating the recruitment process and training, and providing orientation to new employees, work-study staff, and student volunteers
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- A minimum of two years of directly related experience in event planning and execution, including hands on planning, organizing, executing and follow up.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated superior customer service skills.
- Must have excellent computer skills; experience in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other related software. The ability to utilize multiple platforms to organize virtual activities and events is essential.
- Experience providing expertise and recommendations to departments/clients, as well as experience working with internal and external service providers.
- Knowledge, experience and ability to market and promote events and conferences.
- Strong organizational skills coupledwith the ability to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and excel in a fast-paced environment characterized by changing priorities.
- Demonstrated superior interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively, build consensus, maintain confidentiality, exhibit sensitivity to the needs and interests of a variety of stakeholders, and support the functioning of a diverse project team.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in and contribute to an integrated and collaborative team environment and to apply a positive team approach to working with colleagues.
