Description:

Course description: This course is intended as a practical introduction to the concept of "risk' as utilized in environmental decision-making. Students are introduced to risk analysis and assessment procedures as applied in business, government, and civil society. Students receive a broad array of inter-related, transferable, problem-solving, assessment, and analytical skills that are centred on assessment methodologies typically associated with climate change (PIEVC, ICLEI, and ISO31000). To be able to teach the course, the candidate must have a solid foundation in the fundamentals of assessment methodologies as we as direct experience in their implementation at either the institutional, local, or regional scale. A PhD is required in a relevant discipline such as Geography, Forestry, Environmental Studies, or Management Science, as well as at least four years of relevant experience.

Estimated course enrolment: 35

Number of Hours: 0.5 FTE

Sessional dates of appointment: Specific duties will occur between January 1, 2025 and April 30, 2025.

Salary: Starting September 1, 2023 the following rates of pay apply for half courses (F or S), inclusive of vacation pay: $9457.89 for a Sessional Lecturer I; $9,930.79 for a Sessional Lecturer I Long Term; $10,151.76 for a Sessional Lecturer II; $10,326.61 for an Sessional Lecturer II Long Term; 10,362.76 Sessional Lecturer III; and $10,570.02 for a Sessional Lecturer III Long Term.

Preparation of lectures, lecturing, creation of exams, term tests, and assignments, marking, marks management, management of Quercus, supervision of TA(s).

Lectures: Tuesdays from 7-9 pm (in-person at UTSC Campus)
