About the position

The Systems Engineer will play a pivotal role in developing and refining medical robotics devices. This position will focus on establishing detailed specifications and test procedures, ensuring our products are robust, reliable, and compliant with necessary regulatory standards. Additionally, the role will evolve to support new development efforts, including algorithm development, feature integration, and customer experience enhancement.

  • Specification Development: Create and maintain detailed technical specifications, ensuring alignment with user needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Test Procedure Establishment: Develop and implement comprehensive test plans and procedures to validate the functionality, safety, and performance of medical robotics devices.
  • Compliance and Documentation: Ensure all development activities comply with ISO, FDA, Health Canada, and other relevant regulatory standards. Maintain thorough documentation for all stages of product development.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with software/firmware engineers, mechanical engineers, and business development teams to integrate new features and improve device performance.
  • Algorithm and Feature Development: Contribute to developing new algorithms and integrating innovative features, enhancing device capabilities and user experience.
  • Technical Support and Troubleshooting: Provide ongoing support for existing devices, troubleshoot technical issues, and implement enhancements based on user feedback and clinical data.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in systems engineering, with a strong focus on medical devices and robotics.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong skills in reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical schematics and technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
  • Familiarity with Python and Embedded C programming languages
  • Knowledge of ISO 13485/60601, FDA, and Health Canada regulations.

Additional Skills:

  • Experience in the development and testing of robotic systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience with risk management and failure mode effects analysis (FMEA).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous involvement in FDA or Health Canada submissions and product approvals.
  • Familiarity with computer vision algorithms relevant to medical robotics.
  • Experience delivering medical device products to market.
