Fusion Pharmaceuticals, a member of the AstraZeneca Group, is a clinical-stage oncology company focused on developing next-generation radioconjugates (RCs) as precision medicines. Fusion connects alpha particle emitting isotopes to various targeting molecules to selectively deliver the alpha emitting payloads to tumors. Fusion’s clinical portfolio includes: FPI-2265 targeting prostate specific membrane antigen (PSMA) for metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer currently in a Phase 2 trial; FPI-1434 targeting insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor currently in a Phase 1 trial; FPI-2059, a small molecule targeting neurotensin receptor 1 (NTSR1), currently in a Phase 1 trial; and FPI-2068, a bispecific IgG-based EGFR-cMET targeted radioconjugate currently in a Phase 1 trial. In addition, Fusion is pursuing combination programs between RCs and DNA Damage Response Inhibitors (DDRis) and immune-oncology agents. Fusion has a fully operational Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) compliant state-of-the-art radiopharmaceutical manufacturing facility to meet supply demand for Fusion's growing pipeline of RCs.

Fusion is seeking outstanding applicants for a Laboratory Animal Technician to support a broad range of preclinical drug development activities. This position is lab-based, and located in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

  • Conduct and report on therapeutic efficacy and biodistribution studies of radiopharmaceuticals using rodent models of cancer (or other disease indications of interest)
  • Maintain rodent cohorts (including husbandry, tumor measurements, tissue sample collection, and endpoint monitoring), establish tumour xenografts, and administer test articles to rodents by various routes including injection and oral gavage
  • Perform mammalian cell culture in support of biology group activities
  • Document experimental procedures and results in an electronic notebook system
  • Assist in the maintenance of laboratories, animal facilities, and laboratory equipment
  • Maintain laboratory records (SOPs, SDS, chemical, radioisotope, biohazard, cell bank)
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Recognized post-secondary education in the health or veterinary sciences.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Health Sciences, Animal Sciences, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Greater than 2 years of experience working in laboratory animal experimentation, animal care, and animal laboratory operations.
  • CALAS (Canadian Association of Laboratory Animal Science) certification is an asset.
  • Expertise in the administration of test articles to rodents by intravenous injection and gavage is required.
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture, experience with general biochemical methods (e.g., protein quantification, ELISA, SDS-PAGE and immunoblotting, UV/VIS spectroscopy) and cell biological methods (eg. flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry) is an asset.
  • Highly organized with proven ability to work independently with strong communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and communicate with colleagues at all levels.
  • Experience with the safe handling of radioactive and biohazardous materials/waste.
  • Willingness to take on new tasks and responsibilities as required.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
