What you will be doing

Requirements: Enrolled in a Bachelor Degree program

Shift: Open, 10-20 hours per week depending on school schedule

This is an intern position for our Transitions of Care/Meds2Beds service offered through the outpatient pharmacy located inside of the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, TN.

-Counsel patients on prescriptions under the supervision of a pharmacist.

-Able to assess a patient’s needs for medication access via in-person interactions, chart reviews, or interdisciplinary referral.

-Delivers medications and pharmaceutical supplies to patients as outlined by the concierge prescription program.

-Works with prescribers, case managers, pharmacists, and other fellow healthcare professionals to anticipate and address any medication barriers a patient may face at discharge.

-Utilizes communication platforms such as MicrosoftTeams and PerfectServe to communicate with fellow healthcare professionals.

-Works with patients, physicians, and other pharmacies to transfer prescriptions to a patient’s preferred pharmacy when we are unable to provide the patient with a medication at discharge due to patient preference, inventory issues, etc.

-Responsible for creating a patient profile in the pharmacy information system.

-Enters necessary prescription plan information in the patient profile for processing and adjudicating patient’s prescriptions.

-Responsible for entering all new patient prescription information into the pharmacy information system.

-Addresses insurance, reimbursement, and payment issues as appropriate by communicating with insurance providers, patients, and pharmacists.

-Assist with the reviews and handling of all adjudicated prescription claims to ensure appropriateness of reimbursement, co-pay and related financials and, if needed, as directed, follows up all such claims deemed inappropriate.

-Retrieves and prepares the medication for a pharmacist review and verification when needed.

-Assists pharmacist by providing required information for therapeutic consults with patients.

-Participates in achieving business goals and metrics for the Ambulatory Pharmacy.

-Performs related duties as assigned.

What your background should look like

Currently enrolled in undergraduate school with an upcoming completion of a bachelor’s degree. Must be able to work 10-20 hours per week while completing degree.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

Good project management skills

Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and leadership skills

Good analytical, conceptual and problem solving skills to evaluate business problems and apply knowledge to identify appropriate solutions

Must be eager to learn, self-motivated, flexible, accountable and can effectively handle multiple tasks at one time

Excellent organizational and time-management skills

Knowledge of computers to operative effectively with PowerPoint presentations, Excel spreadsheets, and Microsoft Outlook
