We are looking for a talented, versatile, and motivated Mechanical Design Engineering Technologist to develop and support x-ray imaging products. The successful candidate will be part of a highly focused and dynamic team working on challenging x-ray technology-related projects to achieve rewarding and fulfilling goals that have a direct impact on society. The position is full-time.

Responsibilities

  • Design and validation of products and product components for medical and non-medical devices.
  • Development and maintenance of 2D/3D CAD data, including mechanical and electronic components.
  • Material selection for mechanical components.
  • Thorough validation of design against component and system requirements.
  • Preparation of engineering detail drawings for review and release to suppliers.
  • Prototype assembly and evaluation, debugging and troubleshooting, using lab equipment when necessary.
  • Support of product evaluation tests for environmental conditions such as shock, vibration, impact, IPXX etc.
  • Management of regulatory compliance and standards certification processes for medical and non-medical devices.
  • Participation in and leadership of engineering design reviews.
  • Preparation of documents such as new product proposals, functional specification, test plans, engineering reports, work instructions, etc.
  • Close collaboration with project management, other engineering departments, component suppliers, fabricators, and contract manufacturing vendors throughout the development process.
  • Design, development, and assembly of test fixtures for production or laboratory needs
  • Product support and sustaining activities through the whole lifecycle process of multiple products

Required Qualifications:

  • Technology diploma in mechanical engineering or related field or equivalent in training and work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical design.
  • Excellent proficiency in SolidWorks, including parts, assemblies, and drawings.
  • Involvement in a full product development cycle.
  • Understanding of good DFM and DFA behaviors.
  • Proven problem-solving skills to identify root cause of design/product failures.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • Time management and self-organization skills.
  • Experience with standard measurement techniques, test equipment and report writing.
  • Proficiency in creating engineering detail drawings using GD&T.
  • Proficiency with finding and working with new fabrication suppliers.
  • Experience with change control and documentation.
  • Ability to travel outside Canada.

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Experience with design of consumer electronics, medical devices, imaging technology.
  • Experience in designing for fabrication, especially machining and sheet metal.
  • Proficiency in designing for a variety of fabrication processes including CNC machining, plastics molding, die casting, sheet metal fabrication, and extrusion.
  • Experience with design for quality, manufacturability, and reliability.
  • Experience with SolidWorks PDM, including configuration and administration.
  • Experience working within regulated industries, adherence to regulations such as ISO 13485.
  • Experience with design for usability and human factors engineering.
  • Experience with developing new engineering processes and improving existing processes.
  • Experience with mechanical design simulation and analysis.
  • Experience with ruggedized product design.
