The Role:

As an integral part of the wearable products and smart textile research industry, a textile engineer at Myant plays a crucial role in creating innovative interactive garments designed to monitor vital signals for health and wellness purposes. This position offers exposure to a multidisciplinary environment, collaborating with electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, data scientists, and chemists to develop advanced textiles with diverse functionalities. The textile engineer will drive innovation in engineered fabric substrates, developing interactive sensors, electrodes, heating elements, and more, contributing to groundbreaking advancements in the field.

Responsibilities:

  • Performing Research and development in the field of functional textiles and E-textiles from fibre and yarn to knit and woven substrate.
  • Developing functional and innovative fibre and yarns in collaboration with suppliers based on the required application for functional textiles and E-textiles for 3D knitting, embroidery and sewing.
  • Capability in researching and developing innovative ways of characterizing and testing yarns and fibres including new methodology.
  • Defining the materials and methodology of creating/optimizing the dry textile electrodes for bio-signal monitoring application
  • Familiarity with and hands-on experience with all the post-processing applications on fabric, such as coating, laminating, sewing, and ultrasonic welding.
  • Conducting analytical techniques to provide data-based conclusions on functional fabrics or product performance.
  • Performing all the textile characterization testing from yarn to fabric
  • Identifying major media exposures of the end-use application and creating test methods on the components for characterization and reliability, such as sweat, sebum and washing.
  • Employing an engineering approach to design 3D knit substrates that provide active and passive functions, including moisture management and stretch recovery, while preserving electrical functionality.
  • Working closely with cross-functional teams to integrate engineering concepts into fabric and garment design, aligning with specific functional requirements.
  • Compiling and communicating findings and challenges to influence product creation from brief to proof-of-concept and provide feedback to relevant teams such as design, mechanical and electrical engineering.
  • Sourcing and contacting relevant vendors to develop new materials, trims, and mechanical components tailored to the project requirements.
  • Assisting in identifying and working with relevant world-class vendors, industry leaders and consultants to execute Myant innovation agenda initiatives.
  • Taking a scientific approach to problem-solving and writing comprehensive reports, papers and patent preparation files.
  • Communication and organizational skills with the ability to handle projects independently.
  • Ability to learn quickly, adapt to a constantly evolving environment, and lead projects.
  • To serve as a technical resource on project teams, you must maintain a solid understanding of key process drivers and domain expertise in technologies.

Key Qualifications

  • Masters in Textile Engineering or any other relevant field.
  • 5+ years of textile experience (preferably in functional textiles) and broad knowledge of the textile manufacturing process
  • Solid knowledge of yarn manufacturing and post-processing, as well as fabric manufacturing technology (weaving, knitting, braiding, etc.)
  • Strong and solid understanding of weft knitting techniques.
  • Hands on and familiarity with textile testing equipment such as Tensile machine, Taber Abrasion, Martindale, Yarn linear density, moisture management.
  • Hands-on experience in setting up textile testing, characterization and creating innovative test sets up.
  • Fluent in English, both verbal and written

Preferred:

  • Experience in new engineered textile development.
  • Experience with STOLL Knit machines and programming
  • Experience with setting up innovative supply chains for new technologies.
  • Expertise in establishing process controls adhering to strict quality specifications.
  • Ability to understand basic electrical concepts.
  • Designing parts for smart clothing or other wearables.
  • Ability to plan, implement, and present investigation results using statistical analysis and clearly communicate results and recommendations.
