The Opportunity
We have a unique opportunity for a Senior Buyer in our Operations team. This role will be responsible for executing procurement strategies and objectives to effectively ensure that quality materials are available at the most cost-competitive price while meeting our manufacturing demands in conjunction with inventory objectives. This person manages and executes all aspects of the end-to-end activities related to our supplier management, material planning, procurement, and on-time delivery of material aligned with the overall production planning. As a Senior Buyer, you will develop and be responsible for building, maintaining, and managing supplier relationships, with the goal to improve stability, cost productivity and terms, while securing material for our production, engineering, and service teams. This role requires strong collaboration with internal stakeholders with an ability to create strategic partnerships with critical suppliers. The incumbent must also ensure proper procedures are followed in conjunction with the buying activities being properly recorded in the ERP system while satisfying the Quality Management System requirements. The Senior Buyer will also be called upon to provide insightful supplier information, generate performance data for key metrics, and drive continuous improvement opportunities.
What You’ll Do
- Planning (MRP), procuring (MRO/OTS), and expediting materials (raw and finished goods) and supplies
- Item, supplier setup, processing planned orders and purchase order requests
- Supporting engineering with new product introduction procurement activities
- Manage supplier recovery schedules to meet organization’s demand requirements
- Following up with vendors on deliveries and receiving/invoice errors
- Resolving issues with supplier regarding nonconforming materials
- Revising purchase orders, managing order action reports (expediting/de-expediting/cancellations)
- Reviewing and investigating (as required) vendors, recommending regular and alternate sources of supply
- Increasing inventory turns and minimizing production material stock outs
- Actively working towards 100% on-time and complete purchase order deliveries
- Collaboratively identifying and securing sources of supply on new and improved materials, tools, and services
- Negotiate key supplier agreements that will lead to a reduction in overall costs, minimize lead-times and increased service levels
- Actively work with the Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering teams managing ECO implementations – ensuring costs and impacts are clearly evaluated and considered
- Monitor and report current inventory levels of WIP & Finished Goods – establish reorder trigger levels for each part in collaboration with Production
- Provide data insights on performance indicators, preparing reports as required and drive performance improvements
What You’ll Need
- Post secondary degree, diploma, or equivalent certification to APICS CSCP designation, APICS CPIM designation, or PMAC SCMP designation.
- 5+ years of relevant experience within a regulated industry in procurement, supply chain, and or manufacturing operations
- Excellent communication skills to express complex challenges and insights, both orally and in writing, ability to deal with a global environment
- Proven self-starter with the ability to prioritize deliverables on the fly, achieving positive outcomes
- Ability to think clearly under pressure and provide direction resulting in positive exchanges and outcomes
- Proficient computer and telecommunication skills including a working knowledge of: MS Office Suite, ERP or MRP systems
- Effective organizational and prioritization skills, and ability to adapt to a changing environment
- Efficient problem resolution skills to solve complex issues in minimized timelines
- Demonstrated ability to influence others in a constructive way, to bring forward new ideas and improvement opportunities
- Results oriented to achieve key objectives and performance indicators with a proven track record
- Experience in complex negotiations
- Continuous improvement mentality, shares ideas and embraces change
- Keen attention to detail while working with a sense of urgency to meet customer requirements
It’d Be Amazing If You Had
- Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP), or related certification is preferred
- Oracle NetSuite ERP experience in Purchase Order Module, Saved Searches and MRP Module
- Experience working in a medical device environment (ISO 13485, FDA QSR, EU MDD/MDR, etc.) is an asset
- Experience implementing process improvements in a regulated, quality system (e.g. ISO) environment
