Description:
The Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure‐stream appointment in the area of indigenous health at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date is October 1, 2024 or shortly thereafter.
This search aligns with the University’s commitment to strategically and proactively promote diversity among our community members (Statement on Equity, Diversity & Excellence). Recognizing that Black, Indigenous, and other Racialized communities have experienced inequities that have developed historically and are ongoing, we strongly welcome and encourage candidates from those communities to apply.
Preference will be given to candidates who self-identify as Indigenous. Recognizing that there are a variety of terms that potential candidates may use to self-identify, the University uses the term “Indigenous” in this search, which forms part of the U of T Response to Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission, to encompass the people of Turtle Island, including those who identify as First Nations, Métis, Inuk (Inuit), Alaska Native, Native American, and Native Hawaiian people.
The successful candidate must have completed a PhD degree in Pharmacy, Data Sciences, Health Services, Pharmacy Education or a related area by the time of appointment with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek a candidate whose research compliments the research programs of the highly collaborative faculty in the Clinical Social and Administrative Pharmacy (CSAP) Division in health services research with a focus on indigenous health and with experience or interest in pharmacy practice and services.
The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research at the highest international level, and to establish an outstanding, competitive, externally funded research program. Candidates will be expected to contribute to the education and training of undergraduate students in our PharmD professional programs and graduate students in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of publications in top ranked and field relevant journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements from referees of high standing.
Evidence of excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels will be provided through a teaching statement and teaching dossier. Evidence of excellence in teaching may be demonstrated through sample course syllabi (either of courses delivered by the candidate or planned for the future), course evaluations, or other evidence of superior performance in teaching related activities submitted as part of the application. Other teaching-related activities can include performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor, experience leading successful workshops or seminars, student mentorship, or excellent conference presentations or posters. Professional or lived experiences that enhance the ability to teach a diverse student body are highly valued.
Equity and diversity are essential to academic excellence. We seek candidates who value diversity and whose research, teaching and service reflect our commitment to equity and inclusion. Candidates are therefore asked to include a statement discussing past, current and/or planned contributions to equity and diversity, which might cover topics such as (but not limited to): research or teaching that incorporates a focus on underrepresented communities, the development of inclusive pedagogies, public engagement activities that reach out to marginalized communities, and mentoring of students from underrepresented groups.
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
