Description:
Description:
The Department of Biochemistry in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto invites applications for the position of Research Associate (Limited Term) to conduct research on the biophysical properties—including but not limited to the role of surface tension in liquid-liquid phase separation---of biomolecular condensates using analytical theories and computer simulations.
Qualifications:
Candidates require (i) a PhD in theoretical physics, (ii) at least 5 years of postdoctoral experience in conducting research in analytical polymer theories including random phase approximation and field-theoretic simulations, (iii) a substantial record of publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals on applying these methodologies to the phase separation of intrinsically disordered proteins, (iv) knowledge of the pertinent scientific literature, and (v) familiarity with the high-performance computing platform Digital Alliance of Canada.
Responsibilities:
• Development of analytical theory and field-theoretic simulation for surface tension effects on biomolecular phase separation.
• Development of analytical theory for predicting functional partitioning of intrinsically disordered proteins into biomolecular condensates.
• Development of computer codes for the numerical comparison of analytical theory with molecular dynamics simulation results and experimental data from collaborators.
• Assisting other members of the research group in algorithm development and numerical analysis.
• Reading published papers relevant to the theories being developed and experiments being addressed by the theoretical models, and incorporate this knowledge into the research effort.
• Liaising with collaborators.
• Preparing manuscripts for submission to peer reviewed publications/journals.
• Presenting findings at scientific meetings.
