The Department of Orthopaedics, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and Unity Health Toronto – St. Michael’s Hospital are seeking applications for the McGraw Family Professorship in Fracture Care Research at St. Michael’s Hospital-Unity Health Toronto. This is a term, joint University of Toronto and St. Michael’s Hospital Professorship, which is for a 5-year term, renewable for a second five-year term, upon successful review at the end of the first term and contingent upon additional funding.

The successful candidate must be a Scientist at Unity Health Toronto (Unity Health designated status-only Scientists are not eligible), and be affiliated with the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto as an Assistant/Associate Professor. Applicants are expected to lead an innovative, independent, competitive, and externally funded research program of international caliber. The tentative start date of this appointment is October 1, 2024 or shortly thereafter.

The successful candidate will be a recognized researcher with an established research program in basic science discoveries underlying fracture care research. This program would use cutting edge technology and pre-clinical models to evaluate potential new treatments and therapies. The Professorship will lead a world-class program of impactful research and innovation that contributes to the strategic goals and aligns with the research pillar of Organ Injury and Repair. Consideration will be given to the applicant’s record of scholarly activity (including grants and awards, peer-reviewed publications, community/patient engagement and collaborations locally, nationally and internationally, as well as supervision of graduate students and research fellows). The successful applicant must hold a PhD degree or MD degree and hold an active clinical appointment at St. Michael’s Hospital, as well as a record of excellence in scholarship in this area.

The Professorship will provide approximately $92,000/year for 5 years, which will be used to offset the salary support of the incumbent. Any remaining funds may be used to support the academic activities of the incumbent, which may include research operations and education events.
