BCH 242 Y Introduction to Biochemistry

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course is offered for Specialist students in Biochemistry, Immunology and Molecular Genetics. It is designed as a foundation course for those students wishing to pursue graduate studies in research or research careers within government and industry. The course is divided into five parts and covers bioinformatics, essential elements of protein and enzyme structure and function, biomembranes, and membrane proteins, metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids and proteins, and molecular and cell biology.

Estimated Course Enrolment: 48

Estimated TA Support: 75 hours

Class Schedule: Lectures: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Sessional Date of Appointment: September 2024 - October 2024 and March 2025

Qualifications:

Applicant must have convocated with a Ph.D. to be given consideration for this position.

Candidates should possess a doctorate degree in protein structural biology and protein biochemistry and demonstrate expertise and mastery of the subject area. Preference will be given to individuals with prior teaching experience in this subject area.

Description of Duties:

Duties include preparation and delivery of lecture material, administration of an assignment and/or term test including the development of a grading rubric, contact with students via email and/or office hours, consultation and advising students for an independent research project, and maintenance of the course Learning Management System (LMS).

Salary: $9,457.90 (inclusive of vacation pay) for a half course.

Should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from the rates stated in this posting, the rates in the collective agreement shall prevail.
