Description:

This Manager, Telecommunications is responsible for all aspects of the management, organization, operation, planning and development of telecommunications for the University. The incumbent manages telecommunications projects, develops budgets and funding requests, and evaluates and recommends and oversees the implementation of new technology, equipment and systems and is responsible for the supervision of staff in the Telecommunications department.

The incumbent will manage the operation and maintenance of VoIP, centrex and mobile telephony services and related telecommunication systems including analysis, coordination, and implementation. This includes leading the team responsible for the analysis/troubleshooting, system & networking monitoring of all telephony solutions, day to day maintenance and support as required. The Manager, Telecommunications will also manage support efforts for various hardware, software and equipment issues and problems as well as service or maintenance for the various telecommunications equipment and systems. Responsible for the overall performance (up time, adherence to SLA, etc.) of VoIP, centrex and mobile services including line configurations, and installations, voice mail and usage reporting. Leads the development and implementation of best practices, policies, processes, and procedures for the telecommunications team.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION:

University degree in business or related technical field or an acceptable combination of formal education and experience.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience managing in a university IT environment with a good working knowledge of network, telecommunications and management of technical staff.
  • Experience in dealing with vendors of IT and telecommunication projects.
  • Experience in managing all phases of complex projects.

SKILLS:

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical writing and presentation skills.
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Good communication skills with the ability to interact well with all levels of staff at the University and with external vendors.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with high organizational and leadership abilities, judgment, and tact.
  • Ability to lead a small team of telecommunications professionals.
  • Ability to work with other distributed IT departments.

OTHER:

  • General understanding of wireless and landline communications
  • General knowledge of IT systems and platforms.
  • General understanding of Voice/Video over IP (VOIP, SIP) protocols, standards, media, security and best practices.
