About us:

The Operations unit in the University Registrar's Office is responsible for providing advice and support to academic divisions and Strategic Enrolment Management on key processes and systems to support the student experience. These include processes and systems related to admissions, student financial assistance, transcripts and related processes. The Operations unit manages, monitors and evaluates these systems and works with stakeholders across the university to recommend and advocate for system enhancement. This unit is the key central university resource on student information system matters including admissions, financial aid, records, registration and related functions. The Operations unit also provides direct technical and business process support to other Strategic Enrolment Management (Student Recruitment, Admissions and Financial Aid) to ensure the smooth functioning and continued development of technical systems supporting admissions and student records.

Your opportunity:

Under the direction of the Manager, Data and Analytics, the incumbent provides business intelligence solutions to the VPSEM (Vice-President, Strategic Enrollment Management) initiatives at the University of Toronto. The incumbent will conduct thorough analyses and prepare institutional reports for faculties and divisions that will help improve decision-making regarding overall project design. To perform this role, the incumbent will need to possess various technical skills, including proficiency in SQL, Python, R, or SAS, and have experience working with visualization technologies such as Tableau and Power BI. The incumbent will work closely with multiple VPSEM teams, including those responsible for Student Recruitment, Admissions, and Financial Aid.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Analyzing complex statistical reports and/or financial information for management decision-making
  • Producing complex statistical information; Running queries to gather data; Generating reports
  • Identifying and resolving systemic data integrity issues
  • Assessing and determining methodologies for data retrieval and manipulation
  • Designing presentations of data analysis findings; Delivering presentations to promote programs, opportunities and/or initiatives
  • Updating and maintaining documented queries, analyses and reports
  • Probing for information to determine requirements for ad hoc data requests

Essential Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
  • Minimum five (5) years of related experience working as a data analyst
  • Experience working with Azure Data Studio, Microsoft SQL, Python coding, and the development of Machine Learning models
  • Demonstrated experience in engaging with clients to understand requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in creating reports/dashboards/KPIs in accordance with requirements
  • Demonstrated experience working with large and complex data sets, as well as experience analyzing volumes of data
  • Demonstrated experience in creating data models and datasets
  • Experience with Tableau, PowerBI or other business intelligence tools is essential
  • Proficient in Python with a strong understanding of libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, and Scikit-learn
  • Expert knowledge of the student information system (ROSI) as well as related databases
  • Exceptional analytical skills
  • Ability to design, plan, and execute research projects
  • Must have excellent organizational and time management skills and strong communication skills
  • Must be professional, flexible and creative, with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team, and with the capacity to produce results with minimal direction
  • Ability to work under pressure and make sound judgments while managing competing priorities
