The Dalla Lana School of Public Health is a Faculty of the University of Toronto that originated as one of the Schools of Hygiene begun by the Rockefeller Foundation in 1927. The School, which played a critical role in the COVID-19 pandemic response, went through a dramatic renaissance after the 2003 SARS crisis and it is now the largest public health school in Canada, with more than 850 faculty, 1,000 students, and research and training partnerships with institutions throughout Toronto and the world. With $76 million in research funding per year, including more than $31.5 million held at DLSPH, the School contributes to improving population health and health policy and health systems through discoveries and innovation in data science and AI, maternal, child and reproductive health, climate change [response], implementation and improvement sciences, preventable disease through vaccines and prevention through [and] wellness such as with diabetes, comparative health policy, sustainable and equitable health systems, global and Indigenous health, among many other areas.

Your opportunity:

The Knowledge Mobilization Lead will support the new 6-year CIHR grant-funded Network for Integrated Care Excellence (NICE) and will amplify a large-scale CIHR initiative known as THINC (Transforming Health through Integrated Care) through a Knowledge Mobilization (KM) and Impact Hub. NICE Canada represents a bold step forward to address the very complex challenges associated with implementing and sustaining integrated care at scale. NICE Canada also supports an Indigenous-led self-determined parallel and intersecting community.

As the Knowledge Mobilization Lead for this KM and Impact Hub, you will play a key role through your skills in research translation and facilitation of partnerships to meet the challenges in mobilizing research knowledge and creating an inclusive community. You will spur collaboration, build capacity, increase access to wider networks, and tailor the THINC initiative’s research, in partnership with the International Foundation for Integrated Care (IFIC) Canada Hub, to different audiences to share learning for policymaking and decision making. You will work closely with THINC grantees, including knowledge users, providers, patients, family and caregivers as well as researchers, to synthesize and amplify the key learnings from all components of the THINC initiative. Through coordinating and managing virtual and in person events including webinars, workshops, policy dialogues, masterclasses, policy briefs and evidence syntheses, you will build capacity to translate, exchange and mobilize knowledge to accelerate the implementation of integrated care practices across Canada. You will also oversee an online resource library of knowledge products produced by THINC and support dynamic shared creative and interactive online collaborative spaces amongst members of a broad community to advance integrated care knowledge and practice.

Your skills in building community and supporting a collective impact approach will amplify knowledge created by THINC projects toward the purpose of achieving the Quintuple Aim: improved population health outcomes, improved care and patient experience, improved provider satisfaction, lower costs / better value and health equity.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing overall project design
  • Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance
  • Developing and implementing targeted outreach initiatives that support communication strategies
  • Developing charter, scope, resources and schedule for project(s)
  • Drafting documents for knowledge translation purposes and conducting systemic literature reviews
  • Analyzing and collecting data
  • Conducting detailed analysis and evaluation to inform program planning activities
  • Developing content for instructional workshops and facilitating educational workshops and seminars

Essential Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years experience in an academic or health care environment, in the fields of knowledge mobilization, translation and facilitation.
  • Demonstrated experience with project design and execution.
  • Experience creating and managing knowledge mobilization networks.
  • Experience developing and maintaining relationships across multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Experience with KM approaches such as visual thinking, infographics, social media, video clips, plain language communication, experiential stories and/or photo-voice essays.
  • Experience creating, organizing and hosting in person and virtual events such as workshops.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, including strong proof-reading and editing skills.
  • Experience producing network analysis, document analysis and/or systematic reviews.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively with multiple priorities and projects with conflicting deadlines while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and high quality.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, tact, discretion, problem-solving skills and to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to assess processes and procedures, utilize critical thinking and synthesize information from multiple sources.
  • Ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively within cross-disciplinary teams in a multi-disciplinary multi-province team of senior decision-makers, exercising initiative, tact, discretion, problem-solving skills and to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
