Your opportunity:

The Office of Access and Outreach is part of Temerty Medicine’s Vice Dean, Strategy and Operations portfolio. Our mandate is to increase the representation of learners facing systemic barriers in all Temerty academic programs through increased support of learner-led, department-led and Faculty-led outreach and access programs.

As Outreach Coordinator, you will play a key role in providing guidance and support to prospective basic science and rehabilitative science students from underrepresented communities, and working directly with departments to co-create or expand access programs (Steam Design, RASI). You will help lead existing access programs, including coordinating outreach and supporting the development/enhancement of marketing materials, implementation of programs, program evaluations and reports. Priority attention will be paid in the meaningful embedding of Indigenous knowledges and culturally safe practices within all access programs, and the meaningful promotion of existing programs and design of post-program opportunities with Indigenous communities. You will work directly with EDIIA officers from departments across our Faculty to advance EDIIA-related outreach programming and coordinate with relevant communication officers on messages, stories, and other forms of communications. Your work will also involve strategic collaboration with external Faculties, and departments, which may include University of Toronto equity offices, other health sciences faculties, school board partners, and community members in program development and implementation.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Serving as a first point of contact and support for prospective and current program participants, handling program-related inquiries from high school students, parents/guardians, high school teachers, counsellors and community members
  • Conceptualizing, organizing and promoting outreach and program activities
  • Supporting the development and implementation of programs, program evaluation and reports
  • Developing marketing and promotional content for recruitment and outreach materials and writing reports
  • Analyzing and making recommendations for student program enhancements

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree oracceptable combination of equivalent experience
  • Minimum three years of recent and related experience in youth outreach in a large post-secondary institution
  • Experience working on equity, diversity and inclusion projects and youth outreach programs
  • Demonstrated experience working with youth and working with Indigenous, Black and equity-deserving populations
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating events and outreach activities; experience speaking in front of large audiences for outreach purposes
  • Experience creating marketing and promotional materials, developing presentations and drafting reports
  • Experience with data measurement tools, collecting data and the preparation of data reports
  • Experience working with and supporting committees
  • Advanced level proficiency with MS Office Suite, survey tool, presentation software and content management systems
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including editing skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to develop and deliver effective presentations
  • Must be an enthusiastic and energetic team player who works collaboratively and diplomatically in a complex multi-stakeholder environment
  • Effective tact, discretion and good judgement in dealing with highly confidential and sensitive situations
