Your opportunity:

As the Educational Technologist, you will be the first point of contact for those who are requesting help and support from the FASE Educational Technology Office (ETO). As a service office, the ETO gets inquiries across all the services (e.g. Quercus, Academic Toolbox, Content Production) that we support; your role will be to trouble shoot and resolve requests as they come in or to triage these requests to the appropriate team member as needed, all in a timely fashion to provide excellent and reliable technical and pedagogical support.

Your primary role is to support the University’s Learning Management System (e.g. Quercus) and other teaching and administrativetools (e.g. Academic Toolbox). This role includes technical problem resolution as well as coaching on pedagogical best practices (supported by the role’s Manager, Academic Toolbox).

Your secondary role is to provide training and support via outreach with the FASE community. This includes authoring (and updating) instructional guides and training materials on how to use Quercus and other software and hardware used for teaching purposes. You will have an instructional design background whichwill allow you to understand how to effectively design courses and to help provide instructional and pedagogical recommendations on the use of software/hardware. In addition to the creation of training materials, you will offer consultations with faculty(and their teaching teams) and deliver training sessions and workshops directly to faculty and staff members, or assist with the coordination of these events. The successful candidate for this role is a strong writer and presenter, with the ability to communicate not only how to use a tool but how to use it to support teaching and learning.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Probing for information from end-users to identify problems and establish needs
  • Conducting needs assessments to determine end-user technical requirements
  • Configuring web applications according to objectives or user feedback
  • Assessing and determining best practices and standards for multiple instructional modalities
  • Providing formal job-related training
  • Researching, analyzing and recommending potential changes to system features
  • Facilitating educational workshops and seminars
  • Serving as a resource to a group or on a function

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum three years of related experience in educational development and/or training and development and experience with technical support, troubleshooting, and editing
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and training users on new technologies and tools and working in an educational or learning environment is required
  • Strong knowledge in Institutional Learning Management System (E.g., Quercus/Canvas) or similar platforms, including knowledge of common issues and how to be addressed
  • Experience creating and/or configuring web-based applications, course shells or pages according to objectives and user feedback
  • Experience troubleshooting technical issues related to educational development
  • Proficiency with the use of audio visual equipment
  • Knowledge of social media integration
  • Exposure to common academic technologies such as LMS, webinar, and lecture capture tools is required
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly from reference manuals and on-line help resources
  • Able to communicate and work effectively with faculty, course instructors, TAs, support staff and university administrators
  • Able to successfully meet deadlines


Assets (Nonessential):

  • Certificate in Instructional Design
  • Graphic design experience
  • Familiarity with Content Management Systems (CMS) platforms such as Drupal or Wordpress
  • Basic HTML/CSS skills
