Description:

Working under general direction of the Chief of Government Relations, the Projects Coordinator is responsible for identifying issues and opportunities, recommending solutions, implementing project plans, and responding to the objectives and priorities of the Government Relations Office (GRO). Working closely with the Director, University Relations as well as other senior university administrators, the Projects Coordinator is responsible for project management and implementation of priority GRO initiatives.


Such project management and implementation includes: (a) developing draft communications such as presentations and correspondence, (b) developing and implementing project plans, (c) advising on draft policies and proposals, (d) undertaking detailed research on a wide variety of issues and topics, and (e) ensuring pro-activity engagement with, and responsiveness to, targeted stakeholders of the GRO portfolio.

The Projects Coordinator will coordinate communications, assist with and advance projects, and undertake initiatives and daily activities within GRO that require knowledge of confidential information about staffing, priorities and new institutional directions. The role of the Projects Coordinator will continue to evolve, and the individual must be willing to respond to the given priorities of the day and be willing to work cooperatively in a challenging and dynamic environment.

Qualifications Required:

EDUCATION:


University degree required, post graduate degree (Master's or PhD) an asset, or equivalent in education and experience.

EXPERIENCE:


Minimum three (3) years’ experience in project management in a University setting in progressively senior positions; Extensive experience with the University, knowledge of university policies and procedures, and an understanding of the University’s organizational structure, including its governance; Experience leading complex and multi-stakeholder projects; Experience conducting research, producing detailed and comprehensive reports from a large volume of information and presenting on the research. Experience with higher education sector and public sector administration is an asset.

SKILLS:


Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office (must be able to set up templates and macros in Word and Excel, set up Excel spreadsheets and graphics, and prepare sophisticated PowerPoint presentations), and scheduling software; Demonstrated excellent writing and communication skills; Superior organizational skills in planning, project management and task coordination with a demonstrated high level of attention to detail; Strong research, analytical, and problem solving skills; excellent presentation and interpersonal skills; Familiarity with Microsoft Sharepoint and Adobe InDesign is an asset; Familiarity with Acrobat and other Adobe software an asset; Familiarity with scheduling software.

OTHER:


Strong research, writing, communication, presentation and interpersonal skills; ability to work under pressure; familiarity with University governance, higher education sector, and public sector administration; high degree of political acuity and judgment; ability to deal with senior University Officers in a manner which facilitates cooperation and consensus building; ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative, discretion, and tact; knowledge about media (including traditional, new an social media); flexibility and problem solver orientation; and strong leadership capabilities; ability to select/design appropriate diagnostic tools (surveys, interviews groups); ability to deal with senior University Officers in a manner which facilitates cooperation and consensus building.
