Your opportunity:
The Experiential Education Unit (EEU) in the Office of the Vice-Principal Academic and Dean (OVPAD), UTM, aims to enrich the undergraduate education experience by promoting and nurturing unique opportunities and approaches to learning both within and outside of the classroom. General areas of responsibilities of the OVPAD include: academic programs, academic HR; academic policy and planning; academic experience; academic integrity; academic appeals; experiential education; teaching and learning support; strategic leadership; divisional research and data analysis; graduate affairs; tri-campus affairs; and more.

As the Experiential Learning Officer, you will support and advance the mission of the EEU by assisting with the creation and expansion of experiential learning (EL) opportunities at UTM, including academic internships, community-engaged learning, as well as local, national, and international field and research experiences. You will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: assisting academic units with facilitating experiential learning activities offered in for- credit courses; advising faculty, staff, and students on University policies and procedures; creating, fostering, and maintaining relationships with local, national, and international partner organizations; researching and evaluating potential employers for student placement opportunities; organizing and participating in events, workshops, and fairs associated with experiential education; and updating the EEU’s social media accounts and website. You will collaborate with academic and co-curricular units to help maximize the success of UTM’s curricular EL programming. The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter with impeccable organizational and planning skills and great enthusiasm for experiential learning.

The Experiential Learning Officer will report to the Manager, Experiential Education, and work closely with the Director, Experiential Education & Community Engagement, the Vice-Dean, Academic Experience, and stakeholders in various academic units. You will work as part of a team to develop relationships with partners within and outside the university, as well as external organizations within our local and international communities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting detailed labour market analysis to informprogram and partnership development
  • Developing and revising business methods that support employment services activities and objectives
  • Ensuring contracts and agreements are consistent with University standards and guidelines
  • Keeping well-informed on policies, rules, regulations and guidelines
  • Implementing plans that support the development of work-integrated learning opportunities for students
  • Responding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriate.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five years of related experience in an experiential learning environment.
  • Experience matching, placing and supporting students in for-credit student placements.
  • Experience in academic advising, and providing guidance to students.
  • Experience and work in student placement.
  • Experience in program development and evaluation.
  • Familiarity with database management systems and ROSI.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Ability to understand and apply complex community and university policies and regulations.
  • Ability to positively represent UTM in the community and to all members of the University community.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple deadlines and priorities, and appreciate and interactwell with diverse personalities and cultural backgrounds.
  • Must have strong computer skills, including the use of word processing, spreadsheet, power point, Adobe creative suite, and email software, as well as an ability to adapt toand learn new technologies.
