General Description of Class:
Under general supervision of the Working Supervisor, the incumbent maintains, installs, troubleshoots and calibrates all types of Sensors, instruments and programmable controllers on environmental/industrial control systems in the University’s buildings at the St. George Campus.
Typical Duties:
The following illustrative tasks indicate the level of skill required and the extent of responsibility involved in this job.They in no way limit the incumbent to the tasks indicated:
- Inspects, troubleshoots and tests the operation of control systems and life/safety monitoring systems to diagnose faults and resolves breakdowns;
- Repairs, maintains, calibrates, adjusts and installs industrial measuring and control instrumentation;
- Using engineering drawings wires up control panels, setup pneumatic control logics;
- Installs new control instrumentation equipment on existing running systems;
- Performs scheduled preventative maintenance work on control equipment including instrument replacement .
- Updating DDC/DCS programs from sequence narratives;
- Works with Working Supervisor, Building Operating Engineers and BMS Technicians, to establish new or better means of controlling temperatures and humidity in buildings and experimental labs as required;
- Maintains or revises maintenance procedures for newly installed equipment or instruments used for testing, measuring, monitoring and controlling flows, levels, pressures, temperatures and other variables.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education
- Diploma from a recognized Ontario technical college as an Instrumentation Technician or Building Enviormental systems.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ practical experience in the maintenance, installation, troubleshooting of DDC and DCS control systems; as well as, pneumatic, electromechanical, electronic and programmable controllers related to building HVAC and Central Power Plant control systems. Reading and interpreting circuit & control diagrams and schematics. Inspecting and testing the operation of instruments and systems to diagnose faults usingtesting Instruments. Refurbishing and serviceing final control elements. Writing maintenance reports, repairing and adjusting system components or removing and replacing defective parts. Calibrating instruments, performing scheduled preventative maintenance work on control and measurement instruments for existing or new plantequipment, observing safety in accordance with government and company standards.
Skills
- Personal computer skills in Windows, Word, Excel, Email and programming knowledge in Siemens(Apogee), Honeywell (Comfort point-EBI) and Johnson Control (Metasys – CCT,SCT, GX9100, HVAC Pro).Programming and setting up network control systems with functional block diagram (FBD), Statement Logic (STL)and Ladder logic (LL) based application environments.Verify and calibrate various flow and BTU meters (used for billing).
Other
- Strong communication skills in English (written/oral), must be a team player and enjoy working in a structured team environment.
Must be a member in good standing of The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 353 or willing to join.
