Your opportunity:

Black at UTM is an umbrella initiative that emerged from the Anti-Black Racism Task Force Recommendations. Our goals are to showcase Black excellence at UTM and to make the campus a welcoming environment where Black students, staff, faculty and librarians feel included, inspired, safe, and celebrated.

The Coordinator, Black Initiatives will support UTM’s commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. You will be responsible for supporting a wide range of new activities, innovative programs, and community building and strengthening initiatives. Relying on your organizational, creative, and interpersonal skills, you will be entrusted with key project planning and administrative tasks to support “black flourishing” at our campus.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Executing assigned tasks according to production schedules and project plans
  • Determining logistical details and activities for events and/or programming
  • Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance
  • Assessing project output against quality control standards
  • Coordinating tasks for projects and other strategic initiatives with stakeholders
  • Implementing project plans
  • Tracking and collecting information on project progress
  • Resolving issues within the scope of the role and escalating problems as required

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
  • Minimum five years' relevant experience coordinating and implementing projects is required
  • Experience implementing training, education and community initiatives is required
  • Demonstrated experience working with and supporting committees is required
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite is required
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Good judgement, initiative, tact, discretion and diplomacy
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse constituencies and communities in a team environment
  • Proven ability to work with highly confidential files, documents and data and respect of sensitive and confidential issues
  • Ability to work under pressure managing multiple priorities

USW Pay Band 12 -- $79,874. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $102,147. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
