This position will be based within the Secretariat team of the President's Advisory Committee on Environment, Climate Change and Sustainability (CECCS) in downtown Toronto. The work of the CECCS is guided by a committee of executive, staff, student and faculty members appointed by the President. The CECCS' mandate is to advance the university's priorities relating to sustainability and to make sustainability part of the identity of U of T and it does this work in close collaboration with an extensive and inspiring group of sustainability champions, colleagues, and partners across and beyond the university. The Secretariat also supports the CECCS Co-Chairs and standing Subcommittees in Research, Teaching & Learning, Operations, and Student Leadership.

Reporting to the Director of the CECCS Secretariat and working alongside a committed and collaborative team of colleagues, this position will be responsible for our new Sustainability Catalyst Internship Program. This will involve refining our existing internship framework, as well as developing and implementing a robust partnership and engagement strategy for long term impact and sustainability. The Project Manager will lead program and business development activities with the support of CECCS leadership and oversee interactions with prospective and selected Catalyst Program interns from the University of Toronto graduate student community.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing charter, scope, resources and schedule for projects and fully implementing the developed project plans
  • Preparing projects or policies of importance that require a rigorous approach and attention to very fine detail
  • Leading the development and making recommendations for policy, procedures and best practices for the unit
  • Advising on best practices and strategies for effective change management
  • Planning and overseeing the implementation of new and/or revised business processes
  • Identifying, developing and executing strategies for research and development collaborations
  • Researching and recommending new opportunities for external collaborations and partnerships
  • Planning and estimating financial resources required for programs and/or projects

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in sustainability or a related field, or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Six to seven years of experience in a similar role
  • Minimum of 5 years of Project Management Experience including demonstrated experience with planning, budgeting, scheduling and tracking plans of multiple key projects and initiatives
  • Minimum of 5 years working in Sustainability field (or similar)
  • Minimum of 3-5 years partnership relations, including developing and maintaining relationships with partners of strategic importance
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop, lead and grow new strategic initiatives and outcomes
  • Ability to problem-solve and navigate challenges with multiple and diverse stakeholders
  • Experience with project planning, managing resources, framework development and report writing
  • Experience working in supervisory position overseeing the work of others
  • Well-developed organizational and management skills
  • Partner relations and business development skills or similar
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Good judgement, diplomacy and tact in decision-making and engagement
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to foster inclusive, respectful and equitable experiences
  • Ability to collaborate well with others
  • Continuous learning and passion for working with the next generation of sustainability leaders


Assets (Nonessential):

  • Familiarity with research processes and project scoping
  • Experience with or understanding of higher education sector and institutions
  • Strategic planning and impact assessment
  • Track record in working across diverse disciplines
  • Experience working with academic and non-academic stakeholders and students
  • Facilitation and coaching skills
  • A Project Manager Professional designation (PMP) is considered an asset
