The Dalla Lana School of Public Health is a Faculty of the University of Toronto that originated as one of the Schools of Hygiene begun by the Rockefeller Foundation in 1927. The School, which played a critical role in the COVID-19 pandemic response, went through a dramatic renaissance after the 2003 SARS crisis and it is now the largest public health school in Canada, with more than 850 faculty, 1,000 students, and research and training partnerships with institutions throughout Toronto and the world. With $76 million in research funding per year, including more than $31.5 million held at DLSPH, the School contributes to improving population health and health policy and health systems through discoveries and innovation in data science and AI, maternal, child and reproductive health, climate change [response], implementation and improvement sciences, preventable disease through vaccines and prevention through [and] wellness such as with diabetes, comparative health policy, sustainable and equitable health systems, global and Indigenous health, among many other areas.
Your opportunity:
The DLSPH is seeking a highly motivated and skilled epidemiologist to join an innovative research project investigating biomarkers of exposure to environmental chemicals and cancer risk among participants in the Canadian Health Measures Survey. The project aims to investigate occupational and environmental risk factors for exposure andestimate associations between chemical biomarkers and cancer incidence. As the Research Data Analyst, you will be performing statistical analyses of complex data sets and writing program scripts within a Statistics Canada Research Data Centre. Utilizing your strong methodological training, you will prepare results tables and figures for use in research papers and work as part of a team of other epidemiologists to accomplish study objectives. You will also participate in ongoing engagement with study collaborators.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing draft statistical reports and summaries from data collected
- Analyzing and writing program scripts to extract, reformat and analyze data
- Analyzing datasets
- Implementing and executing qualitative and/or quantitative research methods
- Providing detailed information on data analysis findings to stakeholders
- Formatting manuscripts according to publication guidelines
- Fostering stakeholder engagement and maintaining relationships with project partners
- Handling sensitive and/or confidential information
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum one (1) year of relevant experience analyzing datasets and preparing statistical reports and summaries.
- Demonstrated experience executing quantitative research methods
- Demonstrated proficiency in analyzing and writing program scripts in SAS or R
- Strong experience maintaining relationships with stakeholders and project partners.
- Strong communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills
- Excellentorganizational skills, time management and problem-solving skills with the ability to meet conflicting priorities and balance multiple projects
- Demonstrates initiative and possesses a strong commitment to research work.
- Strong commitment to accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong commitment to confidentiality and adherence to relevant policies and procedures.
