Your Opportunity:

Under general direction of the Director, Human Resources, the Payroll & Benefits Supervisor is responsible for the management of direct reports and for payroll, benefits and pension administration and processing for all unionized and non-unionized appointed and non-appointed administrative and academic staff, and faculty at KPE. The incumbent is also responsible for ensuring all payroll processing is completed accurately and in a timely manner; providing information to client departments and individual employees on payroll, benefits and pension; providing individual training to departmental contacts and employees as requested on payroll processes and procedures; creating and conducting staff and faculty benefit orientations; creating/updating/maintaining HRIS records; auditing reports on a monthly basis; investigating discrepancies and resolving payroll and benefit problems; overseeing records management of electronic and hardcopy employee files; remaining current with relevant policies, practices and collective agreements; ensuring appropriate training and coaching is provided to direct reports; providing the Director, Human Resources and Assistant Director, Human Resources with various data and reports on an on-going basis; participating on working committees and special projects at KPE/UofT as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

Post-Secondary education in payroll/human resources/finance or an equivalent combination of education and experience; must be in possession of a Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) designation or currently enrolled in National Payroll Association courses leading towards the PLP designation. Benefits designation would be considered an asset.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum 5 years of payroll experience using SAP to process bi-weekly and monthly payroll and administer payroll, pensions, benefits and attendance provisions of collective agreements, and terms and conditions of employment for non-unionized staff and academics. Experience with generating statistical reports from an HRIS system; managing employee records; recruiting, training, supervising, coaching and mentoring staff; working in a confidential setting and dealing effectively with a diverse group of clients in difficult or sensitive situations. Experience working in payroll at a post-secondary institution an asset.

SKILLS:

Comprehensive knowledge of payroll, pension, benefits, tax and records management policies, procedures, applications and related legislation; Advanced knowledge of MS Office (in particular Word and Excel); excellent oral and written communication skills; proven ability to be tactful, discrete and maintain the highest level of confidentiality; effective analytical and problem-solving skills

OTHER:

Proven attention to detail and accuracy for both inputting and auditing of records and possess strong aptitude for numbers; excellent time management and organizational skills; proven ability to use sound judgment, work under pressure, manage multiple and changing priorities, as well as demonstrate initiative; demonstrated and proactive customer service orientation with an awareness of, and sensitivity to, diversity; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
