The Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and Unity Health Toronto – St. Michael’s Hospital are seeking applications for the Robert and Dorothy Pitts Chair in Acute Care and Emergency Medicine at St. Michael’s Hospital-Unity Health Toronto. The successful candidate must currently hold a full-time academic appointment (Status Only) at the rank of Associate or Full Professor and an Active Employee Scientist appointment at Unity Health Toronto – St. Michael’s Hospital. This is a five-year, renewable once, joint University of Toronto and St. Michael’s Hospital endowed chair. The tentative start date of this appointment is December 1, 2024, or shortly thereafter.
The successful candidate will be an internationally recognized scientist with the ability to lead a world-class research program related to acute care, emergency, or critical care medicine that aligns with the strategic priorities of Unity Health Toronto. The candidate must not concurrently hold an endowed chair or comparable award.
Applicants will be evaluated by an Appointments Committee according to University of Toronto and St. Michael’s Hospital policies. Consideration will be given to the applicant’s record of scholarly activity (including but not limited to grants, peer-reviewed publications, program development, collaborations with organizations nationally and internationally, supervision of graduate students and fellows, teaching) and contributions to the field. Professionalism and contributions to St. Michael’s Hospital and the Keenan Research Centre for Biomedical Science/Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute (KRCBS/LKSKI) will also be considered. The endowed chair will provide approximately $120,000 year, which will be used to offset the salary support of the incumbent. Any remaining funds may be used to support the academic activities and/or interests of the incumbent, which may include research operations and education events.
