The 300-acre UTSC campus has grown from its early buildings, designed by architect John Andrew and inspired by the dramatic landscape of the Highland Creek Valley to include new residential, athletics, researchand teaching facilities. Within this context, the University of Toronto Scarborough’s Department of Design and Construction Management offers a unique opportunity to undertake a diverse range of project types within a similarly diverse range of buildings. The Department’s projects involve renovations and additions to existing buildings with construction budgets, which typically range from $50K to $5M. Our goal is to create innovative and timely solutions that will contribute to enhancing the built environment for faculty, students and staff in support of the University’s mission.

Your opportunity:
Working under the supervision of the Assistant Director, Architecture and Planning, and supporting departmental staff and the Director, Architecture, Planning and Project Development, the incumbent will work as part of the design and planning team. The incumbent works collaboratively in the consultation with stakeholders and in the preparation of architectural responses to complex and varied program requirements, and will undertake space program analysis, test-layouts, data sets, 3-dimensional models and other documentation including permit and tender sets and construction site review and documentation.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing viable design solutions and artistic renderings
- Checking the accuracy and compatibility of design elements
- Liaising with clients to ensure designs reflect operational requirements
- Producing technical documentation and CAD drawings for approval
- Developing technical specifications for inclusion on CAD drawings
- Liaising between stakeholders and/or contractors
Essential Qualifications:
- Advanced college diploma in Architecture or related field, or an acceptable equivalent
combination of education and experience. Professional Degree in Architecture with ability to track towards OAA licensure strongly preferred. - Minimum four years of related experience in Institutional design with an emphasis on complex interior projects.
- Sound knowledge and demonstrated experience of architectural, technical and graphic representation and graphic layout is required.
- Demonstrated ability to create 3D modelling at an intermediatelevel in Sketchup, AutoCad, or other similar software.
- Demonstrated ability to design and layout graphic materials for presentation and/or publication.
- Demonstrated experience in planning and design of systems furniture.
- Experience in the review of specifications, shop drawings and site (field) review of projects during construction.
- Demonstrated success in building collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent computer skills including: AutoCAD with experience in the preparation of architectural drawings, Google Sketchup, Microsoft Office, Excel and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
- Strong interpersonal and verbal and written communications skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to generate new ideas.
- Must have a passion for quality and design excellence, artistic ability.
- Must possess the ability to adapt to new technical changes in architectural design and representation.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Evidence of leadership, initiative, diplomacy and excellent judgement.
- Ability to set priorities and targets and to meet deadlines in relation to frequently changing demands.
- Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail.

Assets (Nonessential):
- Experience with Laboratory and Classroom design is desirable.
- Experience with Public Space design including landscapes and hardscapes.
