The Interdepartmental Centre of Critical Care at University Health Network (UHN) and Sinai Health System and the Interdepartmental Division of Critical Care Medicine, University of Toronto are seeking applications for a full-time active staff appointment as an Academic Intensivist. We are accepting applications under the following job descriptions: Clinician-Teacher or Clinician-Educator, to be based primarily at the Toronto Western Hospital (TWH) Medical Surgical Neuro ICU (MSNICU). The successful candidate must be eligible for an academic appointment at the rank of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in the Interdepartmental Division of Critical Care Medicine, in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. The anticipated start date will be Apr 1, 2025, or one which is mutually agreed upon thereafter.
The successful candidate will lead the inter-professional critical care team during clinical weeks on call in the role of attending physician in the MSNICU and the Critical Care Response Team (CCRT) at Toronto Western Hospital. In addition, the successful applicant will develop an academic body of work aligned with their position description and the SHS-UHN Critical Care Program. The candidate must also have strong interpersonal and communication skills and thrive within a collaborative and interdisciplinary program involving multiple specialties (medicine, surgery, radiology, etc.).
The successful applicant must hold MD and FRCPC qualifications or equivalent, with training in Critical Care Medicine, and have, or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). Clinical experience or training in neurocritical care is also required. In addition to clinical training and qualifications, formal graduate training in education/teaching must be completed or in progress. The successful candidate will lead the Critical Care Education Program at TWH, and so experience in simulation-based education and education administration will be assets. Candidate excellence will be assessed, as relevant to their proposed position description, by graduate training, awards, teaching evaluations, and program development or leadership.
The Toronto Western Hospital MSNICU has a strong tradition for caring for their local community and an international reputation for its expertise in caring for patients requiring neurosurgical and neuro-interventional procedures. The 38-bed unit currently provides care for more than 1,200 medical and surgical patients annually, including complex patients from Rheumatology, Neurology, General Surgery and Orthopaedic Surgery.
Academic rank, salary, and contractual arrangements will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. For the successful candidate remuneration will be negotiated and will be competitive with the usual income range for an academic intensivist in the province of Ontario, in the range of $250,000-400,000 per annum. Protected time for academic endeavors will be negotiated in line with qualifications and merit.
