Your opportunity:

The Data Sciences Institute delivers upskilling data science Certificates that provide technical data science and professional skills. As the Instructional Design Coordinator, Upskilling, reporting to the Director, DSI Operations & Strategy and working closely with the Director, Digital Technology Skills, you will be responsible for the oversight of the academic technical skills content of the Institute’s Certificates, onboarding and support for hiring of instructors and support staff. You will compile best practices for data science not-for-credit pedagogy, instructional design plans, learning outcomes, and evaluation frameworks to lead the development and implementation of components of instruction and tailored certificate programming needs. You will lead the development of the content for instructional workshops and facilitate upskilling workshops and seminars for organizations. You will support proposal writing for data science programming, supporting the directors’ engagement with stakeholders. You will contribute to data science projects developed with companies and partnership development officers. You will also be responsible for advancing the University’s commitment to equity, diversity and inclusivity.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Creating and maintaining course shells on the learning management engine
  • Providing formal job-related training
  • Developing and implementing components of instructional programs; Developing instructional design plans for use in teaching contexts involving educational technologies
  • Conducting detailed analysis and evaluation to inform program planning activities
  • Researching and recommending educational technologies and best practices related to teaching and learning
  • Developing content for instructional workshops; Facilitating educational workshops and seminars.
  • Monitoring accounts for a project and/or program
  • Directing the activities of casual staff

Essential Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree with curriculum focus in educational technology, instructional design, adult learning principals, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum five years of experience designing, developing, implementing and evaluating online course content for adult learners
  • Experience coordinating/supporting/planning several projects of varying complexities in a fast-paced environment and with a high degree of initiative
  • Experience developing and delivering workshops/training to internal and external stakeholders in an academic setting
  • Experience working with a range of e-learning tools and learning management systems
  • Understanding of and experience with AODA Compliance requirements in relation to course/program design, development and delivery
  • Experience drafting funding proposals
  • Experience supervising casual staff
  • Excellent project management skills; strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written); ability to effectively present information
  • Advanced knowledge in Office 365, specifically PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, Word and Teams
  • Working knowledge of relational databases (e.g. SharePoint) is preferred
  • Strong knowledge of instructional design best practices and frameworks
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop good working relationships among academics, staff, clients and peers

  • Knowledge and familiarity of University of Toronto programs andprofessional certificates is a strong asset
