Student Experience supports Student Life, and its units, to ensure that staff have the necessary tools and resources to effectively deliver programs, services, and resources. Student Life portfolios include, Student Life Programs & Services, Health & Wellness, and the Centre for International Experience. Student Experience also provides institutional support and leadership on large-scale assessment and projects that enrich the student experience. Units directly within Student Experience include, the Office of the CAO; Student Life IT; Student Life Communications; Student Crisis Response, Progress & Support; Assessment & Analysis; Innovation Hub; and Strategic Initiatives.
Your opportunity:
Reporting to the Director, Student Life Communications, the incumbent is a member of the Student Life Communications team and works in close cooperation with members of the Student Life community. The Manager, Social Media is responsible for planning, developing, handling, creating and expanding Student Life’s social media presence, contributing to Student Life’s public reach and reputation. The position supports and enhances the Student Life brand within the established channels while also researching and recommending improvements and newtechnologies. The position is responsible for implementing best practices for the Division’s social media presence and will act as the social media expert, advising on optimal use of channels and tools to further Student Life strategic directions. The incumbent is also responsible for implementing social media projects against pre-defined marketing and communications strategies.
Working in close cooperation with the Communications team as well as other Student Life staff, the Manager, Social Media sources, plans, develops and standardizes content for Student Life’s main social media channels. Responsibilities include ensuring that social media content reflects Student Life’s mission and identity; driving increased use of socialmedia among key constituencies; and helping to achieve communications and marketing objectives. The incumbent monitors and tracks social media usage trends and reports on the effectiveness of engagement and outreach on these channels.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing and implementing social media operational procedures and best practices that support strategic objectives
- Advising on social media trends and platforms to enhance digital communication strategies
- Fostering relationships with internal and external contacts in the coordination of marketing activities
- Producing promotional and outreach materials
- Analyzing and making recommendations for programming enhancements
- Implementing marketing project plans
- Consulting with clients regarding the development of project scope and resources
- Directing the activities of a single ongoing staff-appointed employee and casual staff
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with a background in Communications, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum five years years relevant and progressively more responsible experience in social media preferably within a university or public sector environment and in a creative team environment.
- Experience with writing and editing for digital communications preferably within a higher education environment and using social media in a public sector setting.
- Proven track record of successful development and implementing communications plans for both internal and external audience.
- Experience with gathering relevant information for social media purposes, measurement, and client service.
- Demonstrated experience and impact in using images and video for social media.
- Must have experience successfully handling and executing a variety of social media assignments from conceptual stages through delivery and follow-up evaluation.
- Supervisory experience required.
- Must have up-to-date understanding of and expertise with social media, as well as background in all media that support social media.
- Proficiency with design software for creating social media graphics.
- Highly organized, able to multi-task and thrive within a fast-paced environment, work under pressure and balance competing priorities and deliver on time to meet deadlines.
- Must be an effective problem solver.
- Must have strong written communications skills.
- Able to assimilate and interpret significant amounts of information.
- Poised and experienced in articulating information to managers and others; able to communicate with both technical and non-technical personnel.
- Professional demeanour with a strong customer service orientation and effective interpersonal skills, including flexibility and patience.
- Ability to balance creativity with accuracy while juggling multiple assignments to meet tight deadlines using good content judgement.
- High proficiency with Mac and PC formats; advanced skills in Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and social media management tools (such as HootSuite, Sprout Social, Radian6, Sysomos).
