The Department of Statistical Sciences is one of the top ten statistics departments in North America, with our faculty developing numerous important innovations in statistical science. Our mission is to serve as a centre of excellence for statistical and actuarial research and education, across the campus, nationally and internationally. Research is centered on excellence in theory and methods, as many faculty members in the department have very successful collaborative research programs. Central to our vision for the next five years is to strengthen our national and international reputation in collaborative scientific activity, without compromising our core strengths.
Reporting to the Manager, Employer Relations & Career Development Officer, the Mentorship Assistant is responsible for overseeing the development of students and peer mentor learning communities and implementing plans for student-alumni mentorship programming. The Mentorship Assistant will provide advice and support to students and mentors on program delivery matters and assist with recruiting and training student learning peer mentors.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Promoting experiential learning opportunities
- Facilitating educational workshops and seminars
- Screening and making referrals to academic advising andlearning skills programs and other resources or services
- Developing content for marketing and/or promotional materials
- Providing basic support and general referrals to individuals in distress
- Training and coaching student life staff and student leaders
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum three years of recent and related experience in overseeing and implementing mentorship programs and opportunities for undergraduate students in a post secondary educational institution.
- Experience with organizing and implementing student and peer mentor learning communities.
- Experience with identifying and recommending mentorship opportunities for students.
- Experience with conducting detailed analysis and reporting on program efficiency and student learning outcomes to inform program planning activities
- Experience with facilitating educational workshops, seminars and student outreach events, and developing content for marketing and/or promotional materials
- Experience liaisoning and building strong relationships with undergraduate and graduate students, alumni, academic units, industry partners and other stakeholders to support initiatives.
- Advanced proficiency with MS Office including Outlook, Teams, Word Excel, Powerpoint Access, etc.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong emphasis on influencing skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent customer services skills with the ability to relate well to the highly diverse and demanding communities of professional students.
- Demonstrated ability to present ideas, and gain buy-in with external partners. Strong team work and networking skills.
- Excellent presentation skills.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills and excellent decision making skills in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

This role is currently eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, pursuant to University policies and guidelines, including but not limited to the University of Toronto’s Alternative Work Arrangements Guideline.
