The Food Services department serves the diverse downtown St George Campus, including faculty, staff, and approximately 80,000 full and part-time students. To support our community, the Food Services operation offers an ever-increasing variety of operations and services that have a significant impact on campus life. We ensure food operations reflect current and emerging trends, customer expectations and remain competitive in the marketplace.
Your opportunity:
Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Residential or Retail operations, the Food Services Supervisor is responsible for day-to-day operations of an assigned portfolio made up of retail and residence food outlets across campus. The Food Services Supervisor does so by overseeing front of house and back of house activities, monitoring inventory, providing basic training to staff on food service standards, delivering outstanding customer service, supporting the delivery of marketing and promotional programs, and general administrative and financial operational supports for assigned locations.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Determining appropriate allocation of food services staff based on sales volume
- Monitoring food quality and service delivery
- Providing detailed explanations on guidelines and expectations to staff
- Keeping a record of any incidents or events that happen during a shift
- Providing food handling training and ensuring compliance to government food safety regulations
- Processing point of sale (POS), debit and/or credit card transactions and tender reconciliations
- Directing the activities of a group all performing a similar function
- Checking to ensure equipment is in working order
Essential Qualifications:
- Completion of a two-year post-secondary diploma in Hospitality Management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in the food service industry through employee and managerial positions
- Able to identify opportunities to better serve our guests
- Ability to resolve routine problems
- Must have experience operating food service point of sale technology
- Experience with detailed record keeping, ability to track employee hours, and keep inventory records
- Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) internet, email, and attendance management software e.g. Kronos, ADP
- Must be highly organized, adaptable and flexible to resolve routine problems and react to last minute business demands
- Must possess the ability to inspire and motivate a team
- Safe Food Handling certification preferred
Assets (Nonessential):
- Experience working in a unionized environment
- Experience working in a high-volume food service operation; post-secondary or other school setting preferred

USW Pay Band 08 -- $62,832. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $80,351. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
